6(II) Real Time Simulation

Ithas been along time, I was busy so,will continue from the previous chapter. In previous chapter, we discussed about some of the features of Real Time Platform. Now I will discuss about Real Time Simulation for forecasting flow using different scenarios.

After making all the connection you have to run a forecast. There are few things to keep in mind. Now you need Historical data, Real time data and forecast data. Historical data is needed so that your model can have the initial flow ( for initial conditions of reservoir, channel etc.)  Real time data of rainfall , discharge etc for validation purpose. Forecast data will be needed to create a forecast for the channel and reservoir.

I have multiple scenarios to run:

For Real time data I use

  • Tropical Raingall Measuring Mission(TRMM) (Gridded Resolution 0.25°X 0.25°)
  • Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) (Gridded 0.1°X 0.1°)
  • IMD (Indian Metrological Department) and BBMB Stations (Point gage)
For forecast Data I use

  • GFS (Global Forecast System)
  • ECMWF (European Centre for medium Range weather forecast)
  • IMD (Indian Metrological Department Forecast , Grdded 9X9 KM²)
I have made my own scripts and I run all these scenarios using them on HEC RTS platform.

After this you have to create a new forecast . The new forecast has to specify the extract start ( from when it should extract data)  Simulation start and End.
After adding you can run this forecast by pressing the compute button. You can also troubleshoot with this window which I will discuss in later chapters.

The compute button will run all the models and give you results( will be discussed in next chapter).
